For first-timers the process for ordering your food is simple: \u00a0wave down a cart and point.\u00a0 The shrimp dumplings, char siew pau, lou mai gai, and har gao all washed downed with chrysanthemum tea is a good starter\u2019s menu.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10214\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10214\" class=\"wp-image-10214 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909.jpg\" alt=\"street-art_wall-mural\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"10214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909.jpg 800w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909-585x390.jpg 585w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909-263x175.jpg 263w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Street-Art_Wall-Mural-e1483693960909-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10214\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Little Children on a Bicycle Mural<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Afterwards I drove to \u2018The Awaiting Trishaw Paddler\u2019, a three-story mural by Ernest Zacharevic: street art\u2019s most popular name known for his youthful murals of everyday local life \u2013 with the most famous being \u2018Little Children on a Bicycle Mural.\u2019\u00a0 At a slow cruise I passed \u2018Little Girl in Blue\u2019 and \u2018Broken Heart.\u2019\u00a0 Diverting to other artists I found one of the 52 iron works in a series known as Marking George Town.\u00a0 The happiest street art I encountered has to be the 101 Lost Kittens project, most notably \u2018The Real Bruce Lee Would never Do This.\u2019<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10215\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10215\" class=\"wp-image-10215 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this.jpg\" alt=\"the-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\" data-id=\"10215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this.jpg 800w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this-585x351.jpg 585w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-real-bruce-lee-would-never-do-this-150x90.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The real Bruce Lee would never do this<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Needing a cultural distraction I decided to see a holy trinity from the 19<sup>th <\/sup>Century.\u00a0 First stop was Kuan Yin Teng, a Taoist\/Buddhist temple famous for being Penang\u2019s oldest.\u00a0 The open courtyard is festooned with locals, tourists, pigeons and the biggest incense I\u2019ve ever encountered, creating a dreamy and photogenic atmosphere.\u00a0 Walking a block north I took a quick photo of and read a plaque on St. George\u2019s Anglican Church &#8211; this 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century beauty is Southeast Asia\u2019s oldest Anglican Church.\u00a0 Walking south a few blocks I visited the Masjid Kapitan Keling Mosque, an old world, whitewashed Moorish building situated on a green, grassy plot.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/info.experiencetravelgroup.com\/top10-malaysia-experiences\">Read our top 10 Malaysia experiences\u00a0\u00bb<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10217 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827.jpg\" alt=\"st-georges-church_a\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"10217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827.jpg 800w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827-585x390.jpg 585w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827-263x175.jpg 263w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/St.-Georges-Church_a-e1483694608827-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>St. George\u2019s Anglican Church<\/p>\n<p>Feeling famished, I saddled up on the Vespa and wandered around India Town, a frenetic ward with everything from mobile shops to spice merchants.\u00a0 I made a quick photo stop at Sri Mahamariamman Temple, figuring that ticking off a fourth major religion in the hour would bring some good karma, before settling down at Woodland\u2019s Vegetarian Restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>As the city began to heat up it was time to find an indoor activity in the form of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion.\u00a0 It offers the best example of Peranakan architecture in George Town while also tastefully recalling the culture and lifestyle of the town\u2019s genteel Straits Chinese.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10219\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10219\" class=\"wp-image-10219 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560.jpg\" alt=\"pinang-peranakan-mansion\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"10219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560.jpg 800w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560-585x390.jpg 585w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560-263x175.jpg 263w, https:\/\/archive.experiencetravelgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Pinang-Peranakan-Mansion-e1483694742560-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pinang Peranakan Mansion<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Although the mansion\/museum is beautiful, these places tend to induce sleep so a quick ride and coffee were now in order. <a href=\"http:\/\/hinbusdepot.com\/index.html\">Hin Bus Depot<\/a> hit the spot.\u00a0 The old bus station has been re-imagined into an art centre and event space.\u00a0 The abandoned feel, expressive murals, airy grounds and decent caf\u00e9 make it an ideal spot in which to unwind.<\/p>\n<p>As the sun descended into the Andaman Sea it was time to finish the day off with duck kway chap, a delicious rice noodle soup.\u00a0 The best place to eat it is Kimberly Street,\u00a0a well-known enclave for street food.\u00a0 Finding the best was simple: look for the hawker with the biggest queue. \u00a0After a patient wait you\u2019ll have two options: have the dish with just duck or with pig innards and organs.\u00a0 I bravely ended my exploration with all the trimmings.
