Having lived and spent a significant amount of time in Phuket on the west coast of Thailand, over the years, I can confirm there is a considerable array of luxury hotels in Phuket! But, whilst they all look nice on the surface, some feel austere or \u2018could-be-anywhere’ and plenty are simply built to a tick list of supposedly 5-star facilities. Typically, these are the hotels <\/span>most likely to charge top dollar<\/span>\u00a0and yet it\u2019s often a case of features and\u00a0function\u00a0trumping\u00a0over\u00a0character.\u00a0You’ll even find\u00a0function\u00a0giving\u00a0way to gimmick\u00a0–\u00a0such as when\u00a0the\u00a0communal pool\u00a0turns out to be more\u00a0inviting\u00a0than your private one!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For us\u00a0at ETG, a property needs a blend of\u00a0attributes\u00a0that\u00a0truly elevate\u00a0it\u00a0and\u00a0makes it\u00a0worth\u00a0splashing out for.\u00a0<\/span>Whether small and family-run or an elaborate resort with all mod cons, a hotel must have character, soul, and something special to make the grade. <\/span>So, with that in mind, I\u2019ve compiled my (unashamedly subjective) list of the 5 best luxury hotels in Phuket <\/span>to include in your Thailand getaway trip<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5 – The Surin<\/span><\/b> – overlooking a near private beach<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Surin overlooks one of the best and most private beaches on the island<\/a> – peaceful Pansea Bay which it shares only with Amanpuri. Yet, you also have access to a livelier beach with restaurants and bars just a stone’s throw away at Surin Beach itself.\u00a0\u00a0This combination of privacy and local amenities is a rare one in Thailand. 4 – The Nai Harn<\/span><\/b> – luxury on the southern tip of Phuket<\/span><\/h2>\n

Set into the hillside overlooking beautiful\u00a0Nai Harn\u00a0bay\u00a0at\u00a0the southern tip of the island,\u00a0the Nai Harn<\/a> is another top pick.\u00a0Most<\/span> rooms and suites enjoy ocean\u00a0views,\u00a0and this\u00a0hotel really has\u00a0a sense of place in harmony with the natural surroundings.\u00a0Spend your days here snorkelling, paddleboarding or enjoying cocktails served by the beachside butlers!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s perched high on the cliffs of Kamala Bay, close to sandy beaches and with glorious (sunset) views of the Andaman Ocean. The restaurants are top class, the main infinity pool is pretty extraordinary, and the small number of suites gives this uber-luxurious resort an intimate and personal feel \u2013 a secluded retreat with access to the best adventure, experience, and exploration that Phuket has to offer. The 38 suites and villas have abundant space, private plunge pools, and all the luxury you could require. For us, best of all is the sensitive manner in which Paresa was designed to blend into the headland, using the existing trees and vegetation to make the most of the glorious setting.<\/p>\n
