Set to be its 13th year, this lively cultural event will run from 22–25 January 2026, and honestly, it’s a must if you’re the type to pack more paperbacks than swimwear when you’re off on holiday. The lineup is looking good, bringing together a combination of prominent authors and speakers within the walls of the old Dutch Fort.

The festival has grown to be a notable cultural event – in the words of Alexander McCall Smith, “This, in my view, is one of the most engaging literary festivals in the world” – full of lively literary talks with a bit of music and mischief thrown in. Despite being one of Sri Lanka’s biggest events now, it still manages to feel surprisingly intimate. So far, the 2026 line-up includes Ben Macintyre, Afua Hirsch, Devdutt Pattanaik, Dr Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, Helen Macdonald, and a clutch of other fascinating people. The festival is also known for tackling tricky topics head-on, from identity and politics to climate and culture, making it far more than just literary chit-chat.

Check it out:

List of Speakers

Festival Program

Book your tickets here

ETG co-founder, Sam Clark says:

We love the Galle Literary Festival. It’s been an incredible event over the years, punching way above it’s weight in terms of the authors who attend.
