The Hilton Mandalay is located in a prime position in the centre of the city, immediately opposite the majestic walled palace. With 247 rooms, it is large, sprawling and somewhat dated in style. Having said that, it boasts an excellent array of facilities and one the city’s best swimming pools – ideal for cooling off from Mandalay’s legendary year-round heat.
The seven different room categories offer everything you would expect from a large city hotel. Size is the main difference, although most room types are available with either a city view, pool view, mountain view or palace view. We particularly like the Premium Suites with private balconies overlooking the Palace and surrounding moat – an atmospheric snapshot of historic Mandalay.
Facilities would appeal to families in particular, with a range of dining options, tennis courts, a gym, a patisserie, spa and an informal bar with a pool table.
The swimming pool is worthy of particular mention. Surrounded by manicured lawns, palm trees, an outdoor bar, waterfall feature and ample seating and loungers, the pool is one of the city’s largest and swimming is possible.
While the overall design and aesthetic are not particularly characterful or Burmese, the range of facilities, prime location and competitive rates make it a convenient option for visitors to this magnificent city.
